Frequently Asked Questions

.
Chiropractic is the fastest-growing and second-largest primary health care profession. According to the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards there are approximately 81,000 doctors of chiropractic (DCs) in active practice in the United States spread from rural areas to inner cities. More than 10,000 students are currently enrolled in chiropractic educational programs accredited by a federally-recognized body (CCE).

The ratio of DCs to the general population, the 2008 Bureau of the Census figures is estimated to be one doctor of chiropractic for every 5,100 citizens. This compared dramatically to the ratio of medical providers to the general population as there are well over ten times more MDs than DCs. Thus the MD to general population ratio is approximately one to every 430 citizens.

Does your office accept insurance?

Yes. We are a primary provider and accept Most private Insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and Personal Injury.

Do I need a referral if I have Medicaid?

Only if it is Carolina Access Medicaid. Children generally do not need a referral and have unlimited chiropractic care with NC Medicaid. Pregnant women are allowed unlimited visits during the months they are pregnant.

Do I need a referral to see you if I am paying cash or using regular insurance?

No. Doctors of Chiropractic are primary health care providers. The only exception may be if you are using an HMO insurance plan.

How does Chiropractic work?

The practice of chiropractic is based on sound scientific principles. The existence of the nervous system as the primary control mechanism of the body is an undisputed scientific fact. Google Chiropractic research to find thousands of articles on how Chiropractic Care removes pressure on nerves to have your body regain function, decrease pain, and improve overall body performance.

Is Chiropractic care affordable?

Doctors of Chiropractic provide effective, low-cost health care for a wide range of conditions. Our office charges $60 for examination and $25-35 per X-Ray view if needed. An adjustment is $40-60 depending on number of areas needing adjustment. (Mention you read this to receive a $45 discount on your first visit!)

Will Chiropractic care help my problem?

We do not treat any problems. This may sound a bit forward, however, it is the basic underlying cause of the problem that our care focuses on. If you have a back pain, treating it would mean leaving the problem there and covering it up with pills.

If you are experiencing a pain or problem in your body, we want to know if the spine is playing a role in the cause of that problem. If it is, we remove (not treat) the problem.

Is Chiropractic safe?

Of the nearly one million adjustments given every day in this country, complications are exceedingly rare. Perhaps the best summary statement on the subject of safety was published by the Government of New Zealand which established a special commission to study chiropractic. They determined:

“The conspicuous lack of evidence that chiropractors cause harm or allow harm to occur through neglect of medical referral can be taken to mean only one thing: that chiropractors have on the whole an impressive safety record.”

Does spinal surgery have risks?

Yes. It’s an unfortunate fact that up to half of those who have had spinal surgery discover a return of their original symptoms months or years later. They then face the prospect of additional surgery. This all too common occurrence is known as “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome”. Chiropractic may help prevent repeated back surgeries. In fact, if chiropractic care is initially utilized back surgery can often be avoided in the first place.

How do I know if I should see a massage therapist, an acupuncturist, physical therapist or Chiropractor?

Chiropractors check your spine for subluxations (pressured nerves) that come from your spine. These blocked areas cause many effects in your body, some you feel, some you cannot.

If you are considering a health professional you are most likely symptomatic already. It is our concern if your problem stems from spinal misalignment and it is only a chiropractor’s objective to check your spine and clear out these misalignments.
